-- If you're getting the above error (or something similar about "safe mode") it is because your server has safe mode set to "on". Contact your web host and ask them to set safe mode for your domain to "off" to ensure Reciprocal Manager functions properly.

You can disable either the "Reciprocal URL on same domain" feature in your "Misc. Page Settings" section or the "Crawl partner's sites" feature in the "Link Checking Settings" section of your admin.

-- Is the MySQL database separate from the server that the Reciprocal Manager PHP files are on (they're in totally different locations)? Then this is most likely why the admin is loading so slow. Try installing RM on the same server as the MySQL database and this should solve the speed issue.

-- Make sure your links directory has permissions set to 777 (or 775 if 777 is not allowed on your server). Also, be sure not to modify any of the HTML files. If you do, this error will appear. Instead, modify the directory_template.php file and this will modify all of the directory files for you or upload a custom template in your admin. If you did modify the HTML files directly, be sure to delete *ALL* of the HTML files (including index.html) in your links directory, but leave all of the other script files (.php, .txt. etc.) that are in your links directory. Then click "Create/Recreate Pages" in your admin (in the left margin).

-- Make sure you set the permissions (CHMOD) of the installation directory (where you installed the script) to 777 (or 775 if 777 is not allowed on your server). -- This is most likely because instead of linking to the exact URL you specify, your link partner is linking to you with a URL such as http://www.domain.com/action.php?sid=123456789&url=http://www.yourwebsite.com&action=go&id=12345 They need to actually link to your URL, not using a forwarding URL or link cloaker.

• "I am not receiving any emails when a person submit their link info. And I have it set so I should receive email notification. Why am I not receiving the emails?"

-- Make sure that you do not have any email/spam filters on that email address preventing you from receiving the email. Also, if the user does not verify his email (if you require this) then you would not receive an email because technically he did not complete the link submission process. If when you view all links or links awaiting review in your admin his link has a red background, that means he did not verify his email. And make sure the "Administrative email" is set in your admin area "Administrative Settings" section.

-- Be sure to upload any new files (following any instructions provided concerning what files to upload) in binary mode and that should fix the problem.

-- If this happens with every link you try to add then this is a server issue. Apparently, there is a bug in some versions of PHP 4 that cause this type of problem. In order to get rid of this problem, you will need to ask your web host to restart apache (this would only take them a few seconds to do).

-- On rare occasions, some servers require the directory Reciprocal Manager is installed in to have permissions set to 755 (as opposed to 777 or 775). So set the permissions of your links directory to 755 and that should get rid of the error.

-- The message "Link text for the link back to our site had been modified." is actually an error message. It means that the link partner has your link on their site, but the text they used is not exactly how you entered your link info in your admin's "Administrative Settings" section (which is also shown on the user.php page). To disable this feature, go to the "Link Checking Settings" section of your admin area an uncheck the box next to "Check link text" (second option from the *bottom*).

-- You need to disable sub-categories for the description feature to work for categories.

-- Most likely the users never successfully submitted their links because you did not receive an email and the links were not in the admin area awaiting review. If the links were awaiting review in the admin and you still did not receive an email, then make sure your email address does not have any spam/email filters on (if it does have spam/email filters, then check your bulk or junk email folder).

• "I'm getting this error when trying to install RM - Unable to connect to MySQL server : Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)"

-- That's actually a server issue not a software one. That error means that either MySQL has not been started or the config is not setup correctly. In particular the location of the MySQL socket file. The '/tmp/mysql.sock' is the default location, but sometimes people change that, but its possible that the configuration file was not updated when that happened. It could also be the PHP config as well. One other thing that could be the problem, are you sure that MySQL can be accessed locally? If you are trying to use 'localhost' as the database server and the server is a remote server, then that error will probably occur. Anyway, you will need to contact your web host to resolve this issue.
